Julian Date Converter
"Julian date" means two different things. In manufacturing, food labelling and the military it usually means the day of the year (an ordinal date such as 26308 for November 4, 2026). In astronomy it means the Julian Day Number, a running count of days since 4713 BC. This converter shows both.

Formats explained
| Format | Example for Nov 4, 2026 | Used in |
|---|---|---|
| YYDDD | 26308 | Food and pharmaceutical lot codes, military |
| YYYYDDD | 2026308 | Mainframe systems, data files (ISO 8601 ordinal date 2026-308) |
| Julian Day Number | 2461349 | Astronomy, date arithmetic in software |
A 5-digit YYDDD code does not say which century it belongs to. The converter assumes the years 2000–2099. Seven-digit numbers that start with 24 or 25 and do not fit YYYYDDD are read as Julian Day Numbers.
